What to buy your 'Northern Man' for Christmas - Holland's Pies
Searching for Christmas presents for your Northern man can be a difficult process. He may already own the obligatory flat cap and rugby league shirt, and your home may not be whippet, ferret or racing pigeon friendly!
But rather than filling his stocking with satsumas this Christmas, one regional pie company thinks it has an alternative that is guaranteed to put a smile on the most miserable northern man’s face – the humble pie!Holland’s Pies has been a key part of Lancashire heritage for 158 years, but now the North West’s most famous pies and puddings will be available online for delivery anywhere in the country – and it’s already attracted some famous custom.
Lancashire comedian and former Bullseye presenter, Jim Bowen, was one of the first to receive a special consignment of pies, which he had delivered to the world famous Dorchester Hotel in London. He explains:
“It’s an odd thing with Holland’s Pies. They’re a part of our cultural identity, they play a big part in our lives and when you’re away from home, you really do miss them.
People have been crying out for Holland’s Pies all over the country for years. Now they can finally get their hands on them, which would be a truly smashing surprise at Christmas!”
Neil Court Johnston, Managing Director of Holland’s Pies explains:
“Holland’s Pies holds a special place in the hearts of many people brought up in the North West, and the decision to open an online shop has been fuelled by the hundreds of requests we get every year from across the UK demanding that we make our pies available nationwide. Already, it’s clear that we’ve got the timing just right … we’ve got loads of feedback from people who have decided to show their loved one just how much they care by putting a pack of Holland’s Pies in their stocking this Christmas.”
Holland’s will be offering five products from its core range of fresh pies and puddings for UK wide delivery from its online shop. The pies available are the Potato and Meat, Meat, Cheese and Onion and Steak and Kidney Pies, plus the Steak and Kidney Puddings.
In addition, a range of Holland’s branded merchandise, including t-shirts and mugs, will also be available. With the exception of some sports stadia, this will be the first time that Holland’s famous pies and puddings will be available outside of the North West.
Holland’s employs 370 people at its Lancashire base and is part of Northern Foods. The company enjoys a 60% share of the market in the North West, an area where 92% of people have heard of Holland’s Pies.
