"We're a Lancashire Icon" - Holland's MD

The MD of Holland’s Pies, Neil Court-Johnston has chosen Lancashire Day to spark a debate about our regional identity. He believes that we should celebrate our Lancastrian roots on Lancashire Day like our rivals over the Pennines, claiming that a list of Lancashire icons would have Holland’s Pies ‘right up there’.

The comment occurred as the recently appointed MD was discussing his ‘dream’ that Holland’s Pies would one day produce 100% locally sourced products, starting next year with Holland’s Cheese and Onion Pies. He said:
“We’ve got so much to be proud of in Lancashire. There’s the dynamic history, the magnificent landscapes, our ongoing impact on popular culture – and of course Holland’s Pies!”

“I just think people are sometimes a bit shy about saying, ‘… well, actually we have got something to be proud of’. I think, in many ways, the personality of Lancashire and Holland’s Pies go hand in hand. There’s quality, tradition, loyalty, passion and humour combined with a desire to please and compete that spurs us on to greater things. Naturally, if people had to nominate Lancashire icons, I’d say, ‘Holland’s Pies’, but it would be interesting to know what people’s suggestions are.”

Holland’s employs over 400 people at its Lancashire base and is part of the chilled division of Northern Foods. The company enjoys a 60% share of the market in the north west, an area where 92% of people have heard of Holland’s Pies.
