Maundy Relief turn to Holland's Pies to help feed the homeless
Local homeless charity, Maundy Relief has welcomed a decision by Holland’s Pies to extend its contribution to the charity.
Every Friday twenty-one dozen pies are delivered to Maundy Relief’s base in Accrington, where they are served to the guests, who are homeless or with housing issues. The centre is open for twenty four hours, seven days a week and up to one hundred and ninety people are fed and given help every day.
Dorothy Ann McGregor, who founded Maundy Relief fourteen years ago, is delighted that this contribution is to be extended:
"Holland’s weekly contribution has made it so much easier for us to provide hot, substantial, nourishing and extremely popular meals for our guests. We appreciate it no end, as we feed thousands in need for free every month, and to know Holland’s intend to assist us even further is wonderful."
Dorothy set up the charity with the Reverend Len Singleton after seeing thousands of people struggling without immediate and practical help. As well as providing hot meals, shelter and small grants, the project also provides a twenty-four hour counseling service.
Dorothy continues:
"We work 'at the coal face' of all kinds of poverty, responding immediately to basic physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs within the community."

Holland’s employs over 400 people at its Lancashire base and is part of the chilled division of Northern Foods. The company enjoys a 60% share of the market in the north west, an area where 92% of people have heard of Holland’s Pies.
