Holland's is 'bullish" as online store gets celebrity order
When news broke that Holland’s Pies were giving the people of the North West based in other parts of the UK the opportunity to capture a taste of home through their online shop, one of the region’s most famous celebrities couldn’t wait to get in on the act.
Lancashire comedian, Jim Bowen, asked to be one of the first to receive a special consignment of pies, which he had delivered to the world famous Dorchester Hotel in London. He explains:
“It’s an odd thing with Holland’s Pies. They’re a part of our cultural identity, they play a big part in our lives and when you’re away from home, you really do miss them.
“People have been crying out for Holland’s Pies all over the country for years. Now we can finally get our hands on them, which is truly smashing!”
Neil Court Johnston, Managing Director of Holland’s Pies said:
“We’ve been staggered by the level of interest in the online shop and were so pleased Jim showed an early interest. We think it’s very fitting as both he and Holland’s Pies are held with great affection by many people brought up in the North West and beyond.”
After a 158 year wait, this week sees Holland’s go nationwide for the first time with the launch of its online shop at www.hollandspies.co.uk. 158 balloons will be released by staff at the Baxenden factory on Dec 14 to officially mark the occasion.
The shop will offer five products from its core range of fresh pies and puddings for UK wide delivery. The pies available are the Potato and Meat, Meat, Cheese and Onion and Steak and Kidney Pies, plus the Steak and Kidney Puddings.
In addition, a range of Holland’s branded merchandise, including t-shirts and mugs, will also be available. With the exception of some sports stadia, this will be the first time that Holland’s famous pies and puddings will be available outside of the North West.
Holland’s is based at Baxenden, Lancashire, and is part of Northern Foods. The company enjoys a 60% share of the market in the North West, an area where 92% of people have heard of Holland’s Pies.
