Holland's invest over £1M in flexible, fuel efficient delivery fleet
Holland’s Pies, producer of the north west’s favourite pies and puddings, has taken delivery of the first of its 28 new, fuel efficient delivery vans. The new vans, which represent an investment of over £1million for the Lancashire-based business, will be supplied by leading commercial vehicle and logistics specialist, Ryder Europe.
The new Iveco 3.5 ton vans, which come with custom-designed temperature controlled bodywork, will halve Holland’s carbon footprint by half a ton of carbon per annum and save the company over £200,000 in fuel efficiency alone.
“The sight of a Holland’s delivery van, with its distinctive green, red and gold livery, dropping off pies and puddings to the local chip shop is one which is close to the heart of so many in the north west”, said Neil Court-Johnston, Managing Director of Holland’s.
“That’s why, in terms of livery, we’ve decided to stay true to the famous, brightly painted design which first appeared in 1927. But that’s where the likeness with the old Holland’s delivery vans ends. Thanks to state-of-the-art engineering, our new vans will be vastly more fuel efficient than their predecessors, which will help us to reduce both our costs and our carbon footprint.
“The vans are also smaller which will allow us to be more flexible in our delivery patterns. The result of that is that we will be able to meet our customers’ needs more effectively. This investment marks a huge step forwards for our business and is an essential step on our road to becoming a dynamic, secure and profitable business.”
Holland’s employs over 400 people at its Lancashire base and is part of the chilled division of Northern Foods. The company enjoys a 60% share of the market in the north west, an area where 92% of people have heard of Holland’s Pies.
