Holland’s adopts East Lancashire Hospice as Charity of the Year
Holland’s Pies has adopted the Blackburn based East Lancashire Hospice as one of its chosen charities for 2009 and aims to raise £10,000 by the end of the year.
The East Lancs Hospice is the main specialist palliative care unit for Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington and the Ribble Valley, serving a population of some 385,000. It offers palliative care to patients with advanced and progressive life threatening disease, particularly those suffering from cancer, as well as providing support for their relatives and carers.
To celebrate the new partnership, Holland’s recently provided a selection of pies to staff and patients at the hospice. Fundraising activities have already begun, with several members of the Holland’s team taking part in the 8 mile sponsored Silver Starlight Walk in aid of the charity in June.
Neil Court Johnston, Managing Director of Holland’s said:
“The East Lancs Hospice provides invaluable care to the communities across the region and we are delighted to offer our support to them. We are planning a series of fundraising events over the next few months designed to raise as much as possible for the charity”
Community Fundraiser at East Lancashire Hospice, Sharon Crymble said:
“The operational costs of the East Lancashire Hospice will be £2.8 million this year alone. With just 30% of that funded by the Primary Care Trusts we rely heavily on public donations to stay open, and are therefore very grateful to Holland’s for their support.”
She went on to say…
“At the hospice a large part of our care involves making sure our patients are as comfortable as possible. The free pies donated by Holland’s gave the patients a nice ‘taste of home’ which was much appreciated!”
