Holland's Super Fans Make the UK's Best Pie Poets!

Some of you may remember the competition that we ran back in April and May this year, where we asked people to tell us why they were a Holland’s ‘Super Fan’. We announced six winners at the time, with each taking away a complete Holland’s fan kit as well as ten of their favourite pies. We had loads of amazing entries to the competition that didn’t actually win a prize, but certainly deserved recognition – so that’s why we thought it would be good to share some of them with you now.

Some of the best ‘Super Fan’ entries came as poems and short anecdotes, here’s a few of our favourites:

A poem by Bev:

Holland’s Pies – I’m the biggest fan!
I stuff them in whenever I can,
With chips and gravy, nice and hot,
Or cold as a snack, I eat the lot!
No bigger fan than me, I’m telling no lies,
My photo is in the dictionary next to “Who ate all the pies!”

A poem by Kimberley:

I love Holland’s pies,
Such a feast before my eyes,
Steak and Kidney is the best,
Even though I love the rest,
The smell the taste is so divine,
My tastebuds water with this rhyme,
I'm going to have one for my tea,
A superfan that’s me!!

A poem by Martine:

There's three in this relationship,
And one of us is savoury,
My bloke likes nothing better,
Than a Holland's pie with gravy.

I have tried everything,
But I guess I can't deny,
He'll always love it more than me,
His meat & potato pie.

An anecdote by Helen:

I am a super fan and have been for years. I used to work in the Levers Chippy on Oldham market as a school girl and waxed lyrically about your pies and selling them like hot cakes. Pudding on a muffin was my biggest seller!

I then met a Wigan lad who was – a fellow pie eater but of your competitors pies! Oh NO! I soon had him converted to Holland’s and on our wedding day we served Holland’s pies to all our guests who were over the moon, especially our Southern friends who hadn’t had them in years. I now regularly send pies down to my sisters in London and my sons in Devon. I am a one woman Holland’s pie seller and definitely a Super Fan x

An anecdote by Thomas:

There is no question about the fact that I am a true super fan of the Holland’s Pie. I travel to and from South Africa at least twice a year and everytime I go I take a selection of at least 16 pies with me to my family who live in South Africa (we are all originally from Rochdale and Oldham). When I arrive we usually sit down to a family dinner of pies, chips and gravy under an African sky.
